Welcome to NSS  Unit

Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College, Dibrugarh

“When you give people a share of responsibility in sharpening their lives you increase their self-confidence, without which they are nothing. When they have faith in themselves, they are prepared to take on even the most difficult problems and solve them. And in order to generate that faith we must first demonstrate that we have faith in the ability of the people to undertake nation-building activities. Faith begets faith and democracy can grow only when the people, particularly those who belong to the lowest of society, accept in fully”.
– Swami Vivekananda

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a community service program which was launched in 1969 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. It aims at fostering a sense of social responsibility and community engagement among students. It encourages volunteers, typically university and college students, to participate in various service activities that address local needs and societal issues. NSS activities range from literacy campaigns and environmental conservation to health and hygiene drives. By engaging in these activities, students not only contribute to societal development but also gain valuable skills, experience, and a deeper understanding of their social environment. Through NSS, the essence of “service before self” is emphasized, promoting holistic development and civic responsibility, and fulfilling the Motto of NSS “NOT ME BUT YOU”.

The motto or watchwood of the NSS express the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole. Therefore it is the aim of NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day-to-day programme.

The NSS Unit of MDKG College was opened in the year 1996, and it has been actively functioning and participating in various activities such as Cleanliness drives, Plantation drives, Blood-donation camps, Health-camps, Awareness campaigns, Skill development workshops, Disaster-management trainings etc to fulfill the objectives and goals of NSS, and also representing Dibrugarh University, Assam.
