INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES

1. LIBRARY

The college has a well-stocked computerized library with a wide variety of books, text books, reference materials, magazines, newspapers, maps etc. Various national and international journals are available to meet the needs of the students. Photocopying (Xerox) facility is also made available at a nominal rate. Moreover, there are highly dedicated staffs for support. Most importantly, the library can be used throughout the week during college hours. Computer and internet facilities are also made available. The library is also equipped with Broad Band Internet Services with five computers to provide uninterrupted information technology. The number of collected resources in the library are: Books-32724; Subscribed Journals, Magazines & Newspaper-24; Maps-10; CD & DVD-50; Back Volume Journal-500; Book Bank- 1300; Computer-09; and Photocopying Machine-1. In addition to these, the library has some distinct collections on the North-East, Women Studies, Gandhian Studies, Performing Arts and MDKG Corner. Moreover, there are two other collections in the memory of late Dr. Vaijyanta Kumar Dutta and late Dr. Swagata Dowerah Bhuyan. The college provides services like Book Circulation, Reservation of Books, Reading facilities for Books, Journals and Newspaper, Overnight and On Site Issue Facility, Reference Services, Reprography Service, Online Public Access Catalogue, Newspaper Clipping Service, Internet Access Facility, Book Bank Facility and Orientation Programme. Library has automated its various services using the software SOUL 2.0 received from INFLIBNET. Cataloguing and circulation services are fully automated. OPAC facility is available to search the library’s holding. The system of Bar Coding of books is also available. All the computers are interlinked with Wi Fi connectivity. The college has a separate library for Science students located in the 2nd campus of the college. Library has established a digital library (Institutional Repository) using DSPACE digital Library Software.

2. CLASS ROOMS

Full attention has been given to create a healthy environment for study by having spacious, clean, and airy classrooms. In addition, some of the classrooms are equipped with LCD power point projectors.

3. SMART CLASS ROOM

The college has recently installed three smart classrooms (two in new building) to cater to the growing needs of teaching & learning pedagogy. Proper attention has been paid to use the ICT in the teaching process. The rooms are equipped with Computers, PowerPoint Projector, digital board, lectern, and seating facilities.

4. GIRLS’ COMMON ROOM

A common room for girls has been provided in each of the campuses for relaxation and recreation of students during off periods. Various indoor games like carom, Ludo, Table Tennis etc. are also provided.

5. LABS

The college has well equipped laboratories in the departments of Geography, Home Science, and Education. The college has one language lab and one computer lab in the 1st campus and one ICT lab in the 2nd campus. In the Science block, modern laboratories for Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Zoology have been set up. The college campus is connected with Wi Fi services.

6. HOSTEL

The College has two hostels at present for the students. One is at Graham Bazar and another one is attached to the 2nd campus of the college. For admission to the hostel, a candidate should apply formally in the prescribed form made available with the prospectus. Seat allotment is made strictly on the basis of merit and availability of seats. Statutory reservation is also applicable in case of allotment of hostel seats. Hostel is governed by the hostel rules. Every possible care is taken to maintain discipline and punctuality and check irregularities and unbecoming affairs in the hostel. Violating of hostel rules in any manner shall be liable to punishment which may even lead to expulsion from hostel and college as well. Banani Das is the hostel superintendent.

7. AUDITORIUM & CONFERENCE ROOM

The college has a modern and spacious auditorium with multimedia facility for all kinds of cultural and academic functions. Sound proofing, installation of ceiling fan, LCD Power point projector, adjuster fan etc. facilities are available in the auditorium hall. At the 2nd campus, the college has an ultra-modern conference room with all types of facilities.

8. GYMNASIUM

The college has a modern gymnasium for the use of students furnished with modern fitness equipment. It helps the students to maintain their physical fitness.

9. UGC NETWORKING RESOURCE CENTRE

The College has established this centre with a financial grant from the U.G.C. to provide continuous Internet Surfing facility to the teachers and students at a nominal rate.

10. COLLEGE CANTEEN

The College has two well equipped canteens for students, teachers, and other employees where healthy and non-spicy food is provided. It is a pleasant hangout for interaction among all the members of the college.

11. EXCURSION & FIELD STUDY TOUR

Field Study Tours are organized by some departments as part of their curriculum. Apart from this, many departments have also organized department level picnics and visits. The students of the college also go for excursions to different places of the country regularly.

12. ORIENTATION OF NEW STUDENTS

Orientation programme is organized for H.S. and Degree freshers at the beginning of the academic session in which the students are made familiar with the different aspects of the college like college layout, rules and regulations, plans and programmes, co-curricular activities etc. The students’ union also is given an orientation by the lecturers and administrative authority to carry out their work in a disciplined manner. Moreover, similar kind of orientation is given to the new comers at library where they are made familiar with the library rules, book circulation, regulations, library facilities, resources and services etc..

13. WALL MAGAZINE AND COLLEGE MAGAZINE

Most of the departments publish wall magazines to offer opportunities for the development of the creative talent of the students. A college magazine is also released annually edited by the college magazine secretary and guided by the members of the magazine committee. This magazine basically emphasizes on literary flair & designing graphics of students in Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and English languages. Gender Sensitization & Sexual Harassment Complaint Cell also publishes a wall magazine titled Uddipana annually.

14. SPORTS FACILITIES

Some indoor game facilities like Table Tennis, Badminton etc. are provided. Sometimes coaching by a recognized coach is arranged. Students excelling in Inter-college tournaments and other sporting events are felicitated in the last day of the week long cultural bonanza held in the college.

15. PHOTOCOPYING FACILITY

For the greater interests of the students and teachers and other staff of the institute, photocopying facility is made available in the central library of the college at a nominal rate. This facility is also offered to the external visitors of the library.

16. ELECTRICITY AND POWER BACKUP

The electricity connection is available at the college campus. Recently the institute has installed one 100 KW transformer at its first campus and another 200 KW transformer in the 2nd campus. For the non-disruption of 24 hours electricity supply at campus, the college has also installed three generators.

17. WATER SUPPLY

Twenty-four hours of safe drinking water supply is made available in the college premises by installing water coolers, KENT PERK Mineral RO Water Purifiers and Aqua guards.

18. PUBLICATION

Department of Sanskrit, of the college publishes an annual journal titled, Pracya (ISSN 2278-1064). The journal is listed in UGC Care list Group D. The Cell for Women’s Studies and Development also publishes an ISSN journal named Embark biennially. A few departments also publish journals on their subject periodically.

19. CASHLESS TRANSACTION (CT)

As Government of India is taking utmost care for less cash transactions with an aim to bring transparency in financial activities, MDKG College is also stepping forward to embrace this initiative. For this purpose, swipe machines have been installed and all cash windows have been closed. All kinds of fees have been paid either through point of sale (swipe machine) or net banking or students can log on to the college website for any kind of payment. A mobile app has also been designed for this purpose which is available at the college website.

20. VIRTUAL COMMUNICATION (VC) MDKG

College gives preference to virtual communication than conventional modes. Any kind of communication with the students has been made through SMS, teachers and non teaching staffs are communicated either through SMS or through e-mail. For this purpose, a database has been prepared and maintained. Therefore, it is very strongly recommended that while filling up the ONLINE admission form, utmost care should be given for entering correct mobile number and valid & active email ID. Any kind of change in mobile number or email id should be communicated to the office immediately for updating the database. All candidates are advised not to upload other’s email id and mobile number but rather they should open an email account on any one of the virtual platforms.

21. ONLINE ADMISSION

Like the preceding academic years, MDKG College goes with a fully automated online admission procedure this year. Interested candidates can log on the college website (https://www.mdkgc.online/), read the prospectus very carefully and then fill up the ONLINE admission form in SAMARTH PORTAL with accurate data and information and then upload the prescribed documents either in PDF or JPEG format. Date of admission will be notified on the college website in the NOTICE panel.

22. FEED BACK

The college is always working for quality enhancement and improvement. For this purpose the IQAC regularly collects feedback from students and guardians. To work more excellently in this regard, the IQAC has initiated to collect feedback from the teachers, non-teaching staffs and alumni. Feedback from the teaching and non-teaching staffs is collected manually while alumni can submit their feedback either through email or manually. The email id is [email protected].

23. COUNSELING TO THE SLOW LEARNERS (CSL)

Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is an integral part of the semester system. Although the teachers of this institute dedicatedly take utmost care for the students but yet the institute has identified some cases of slow learning.

24. MENTORING PROCESS

The College has started a process of Mentoring for students. Students of each semester are divided into groups and assigned to a particular teacher who acts as a Mentor for the students.
