About the Department
The department of Zoology was established in the year 2016 in the second campus of MDKG College to offer under graduation course to the girls. It has been affiliated under Dibrugarh University since inception. The department aims at imparting the best possible education to the students in the field of Zoology.
The department currently has four dedicated, passionate, and qualified faculties. The department had produced numerous graduates (6th batches till date) with excellent results by claiming positions under the top ten in Dibrugarh University. Some of the students are currently doing jobs in Govt. and private sectors. The department is proud of some notable students who are engaged in research work in the universities of India and abroad.
Department of Zoology has ICT classrooms, departmental library and a very well-equipped laboratory. The department organizes guest lectures, talk programmes by eminent personalities from esteemed institutions. In addition, extension activities, outreach programmes, field trips to National parks, wildlife sanctuaries etc. are organized to motivate the students. Extracurricular activities such as model making, poster making, power point presentation etc. are conducted to inculcate creativity and boost self-confidence of the students.

Envisions inculcating the values of life science education, respect for nature, and concern for ethical values. Fostering critical thinking and learning process among students through good scientific educational practices.

To ensure purposeful learning of biological sciences and to provide a strong platform for higher studies, research, and employment.

Message from HOD
The B.Sc. Zoology (C.B.C.S,3yrs) and B.Sc. Zoology (FYUGP,4 years) programmes are equally balanced with both theoretical and practical sessions which will provide students the hands-on experience. This degree is inclined towards modern technology which will enable students to opt for any specialization course after degree like biotechnology, endocrinology, immunology, applied zoology, aquatic biology, bioinformatics wildlife science etc. Interested aspirants can further advance their learning by enrolling for higher education in Zoology. A graduate degree in Zoology opens a vast range of career opportunities in the field such as Teaching and Research, Forensics, Indian Forest Services, Animal and Wildlife educators, Wildlife rehabilitators and Conservators, Research Projects and in higher specialized studies. The career opportunities for a post graduate in Zoology are limitless. Some of the employment areas which provide huge openings for the Zoology candidates are medical laboratories, wildlife rehabilitation centres, hatcheries, agricultural departments, conservation agencies, environment or ecosystem management sector, Tea gardens etc. Students may also opt for self-employment by venturing Aquaculture, animal husbandries, apiculture, Sericulture etc.

Activities of the Department
Department of Zoology organizes enrichment programs (by eminent resource persons), extension activities, outreach programme or various other events for the students.
Enrichment programmes –
1. Invited talk on “Bioinstrumentation and Spectroscopy” by Dr. Kaushal Sood, Assist. Prof., Zoology Dept., Tinsukia College on 29/09/18.
2. Special lecture on “Prospects of studying life sciences and genetics as an interesting subject of life sciences” by Prof. P.K. Borua, dept. of life sciences, Dibrugarh University.
3. Induction programme on Zoological Society of Assam by Dr. Balendra Kumar Das, president ZSA on 09/11/20.
4. Invited talk programme entitled “Sustaining all Life on earth” on occasion of World Wildlife Day, by Dr. M.K. Singh, Assist. Prof., of Life sciences, Dibrugarh University on 03/03/20.
5. A programme titled “Organic Farming, Health and Environment “was organised In collaboration with ARANYAK and Irabkirab (NGO) on 21/12/21.

Extension Activities –
An Extension cum Awareness program was conducted on the topic-‘Mosquito Borne Disease and Their Prevention’ and ‘Safe disposal of plastic waste and proper use of dustbins according to their colour’ by the faculties and 6th semester students of the department at Jokai Girl’s high school, Chamguri Kachari Gaon, Barbaruah, Dibrugarh.
Outreach programme –
On Mother’s Day, the students and the faculties of the department went to Asha Old Age home to visit the elderly people residing there. Spent some time with them, had conversations and a lunch was organised for them.
