Vision of the Department
The Department of Political Science endeavours to inculcate pragmatic knowledge among the students that will help them to equip the challenges of society. The Department aims at disseminate such learning that contributes in developing the capacity of understanding the Political aspect of human behaviour. The Department believes that by doing this, it will positively contribute in nurturing rationality, creativity and positivity in individual in particular and society in a general perspective.
Mission of the Department
The Department has the mission of providing higher education in the subject of Political Science to the girl students of the state of Assam and N.E India .The Department has been consciously making the attempt to provide effective knowledge in the subject so that the students could acquire necessary skill and quality to become bureaucrats, public administrators and direct and indirect stakeholders in the decision making process.

Message from the HOD
Welcome to the Department of Political Science, Congratulations on your decision to study Political Science, a discipline that has a legacy with human existence. I genuinely believe that our association will contribute positively towards the society and the state. We want you to embark into journey that will be open to new experiences and assure you all that we ,the teachers will provide you with every psychological and academic support and counselling. Here, I want to give you a sneak preview of the department. Our department was established in the year 1963 and since its inception the department is making endeavor to produce quality human resource equipped with knowledge of society and politics. Our department has the credit of having alumni who have contributed to local and national arena in different capacities like administrators, university professors, academicians, Social workers and so on and so forth.
Activities of the Department:
Organizing Seminars/Workshops / Symposium / Interactive Sessions / Orientations Programmes / Events and celebration of significant Days:
- An orientation programme for the newcomers of the department was held on 10/08/2019 to develop their inclination and orientation towards the subject. The faculties of the department talked in length about the significance, nature and scope of studying Political Science as a major subject. The talk was attended by students of all the semesters of the Political Science Department.
- A talk-cum-interactive programme was organised on 11th September, 2019 in the Department of Political Science on the topic “India’s Approach to Globalization: A Perceptible Shift in Political, Social & Economic Spheres.” Dr. Ashwini Machey, Assistant Professor from the Department of Economics, MDKG College acted as the Resource Person. The programme was a successful one with the attendance of almost 100 students.
- A talk-cum-interactive programme was organized on 14th October, 2019 in the Department of Political Science on the topic “Feminism as an Area of International Relations” Dr. Rizia Begum Laskar acted as a resource person and enlightened the students and faculties with an in dept discourse on the subject. iv) A talk cum interactive programme was organized on 19th October, 2019 in the Department of Political Science on the topic “WTO and some other issues of International Economic Laws” by Dr. Utpal Sut. The programme was a successful one with the attendance of almost 100 students.
Best Practice: Peer Teaching
The Department believes in developing the overall personality of the students and exploring their inner potentials. Keeping in view these objectives the department conducts Peer Teaching classes at regular intervals. Such programmes give a boost to the leadership qualities and enhance the power of critical thinking of the students.

Celebration of International Human Rights Day:
Keeping on with the departmental practice of celebrating Human Rights on 10th December every
year, the department also continued the practice during the period of 2019 to 2024 (except the Covid period). In 2021 also International Human Rights Day was celebrated in collaboration with the IQAC, organised an academic lecture on “Human Rights and its Relevance” which was delivered by Dr. Nita Paul, Retd. Associate Professor, Women’s College Tinsukia. The programme was a successful one.
Extension Activity: Teaching in Schools:
The objective of our extension activities will incorporate some issues on psychological development, creating awareness on hygiene and sanitation, control on digital access, personality and confidence building, career counseling, cleanliness etc. especially for the students of Class IX & X. An extension activity has been conducted at Bengali High School, Dibrugarh on 16th May, 2023.
Departmental Wall Magazine:
The Department regularly publishes a Departmental Wall Magazine to foster the literary and intellectual caliber and potential of the students. The wall magazines are the showpieces of the views and diverse qualities of the undergraduate students. The Wall Magazine has begged praises and prices in the annual college week competition. f) Awareness Programmes:
The students of the department have been very consciously participating in different awareness programmes of Socio-Psychological, Legal, and Cultural level organized at departmental and institutional level. They have also keenly shown involvement in programmes organized by NSS and NCC unit of the College. They have also participated in the community outreach programmes initiated in the adopted village. Following are some instances of participation.
- Popular Science Talk on Ice Age and Snowball Earth, organized by IQAC, M.D.K.G. College, Dibrugarh and resource person was Dr. Dilip K. Mukhopadhyay, Retired Professor, Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Roorkee held on 4th May, 2023.
- Government of Assam organized ‘Unity Run’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel on 31st October, 2023.
- Workshop on Security Analysis, Cyber Security held on 31st December, 2023.
- Skill Yatra – Skill Awareness Program – Assam Skill Development Mission held on 31st January, 2024; Participated by two students from the department namely Kironmoyee Baruah and Rakhi Saikia.
- On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Essay writing Competition was organized by Hindi Department of M.D.K.G. College on 21st February, 2024 and 3rd Prize won by Himashree Saikia.
- The International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8th March, 2024 ICC & Women’s Cell of MDKG College, Dibrugarh organized Speech Competition on ‘Gender Equality and Relevance of Inclusion’ and Poster Making Competition. Sneha Saha of 2nd Semester got 2nd Prize in Poster Making Competition.
- Departmental field trip to Demow, Arunachal Pradesh on 10th March, 2024.
- Screening and interaction on the film entitled ‘The Making of Mahatma’ with actor Rajat Kapoor held on 14th March, 2024. Khusboo Sonowal and Gracy Das of 6th Semester acted as coordinators of the program.
- Celebration of World Sparrow Day on 20th March, 2024 organised Department of Zoology, MDKG College, Dibrugarh.
- Stress Management and Counselling for Student, organised by Psychological Counselling Cell, IQAC, MDKG College, Dibrugarh, 28th March, 2024 at 1 PM; Participants: Bhaswati Sovapandit, Olipriya Horo and Jyotiska Gogoi.
- Speech on Boro leader Late. Upendra Nath Brahma on 30th March, 2024. Observed Student’s Day; Participant: Kironmoyee Baruah.
- Poster Making Competition organized jointly by ICC, MDKG College, Dibrugarh and Akom Foundation on Gender Issues on 31st March, 2024.
- Voter’s Awareness Campaign, Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye organized by NSS Unit, MDKG College, Dibrugarh in collaboration with Sweep Cell, Dibrugarh District Administration on 5th April, 2024.
- Cyber security Awareness and Career Opportunities programme organized by Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam.
- International Mother’s Day was observed by Department of Assamese & Linguistic Club on 12th May, 2024 and organized Speech Competition on the Theme: মাতৃভাষাৰ দিৱস’ত মাতৃভাষাৰ প্রতি আমাৰ দায়িত্ব

Parent Teachers’ Meet (PTMs):
The Department organises Parent Teachers’ Meet at regular intervals for enhancing communication by fostering open lines of communication between parents, teachers, and administration, supporting education by advocating for educational resources and programs that benefit students and enhance their learning experience, by encouraging parental involvement and by promoting parental engagement in school activities, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Recently on 28th May, 2022 and 14th October 2023, the Department organized PTMs with great enthusiasm and anticipation. Parents of the students enriched the occassions with their conscious participation and words of encouragement.
Mentor-Mentee Programme:
The mentor mentee programme facilitates Guidance and Support, Skill Development Networking Opportunities, Increased Confidence and Career Advancement Opportunities. Mentees receive personalized advice and support, helping them navigate challenges and make informed decisions. Access to mentorship can enhance professional and personal skills, from technical abilities to soft skills like communication. Mentees can expand their professional network through their mentors, gaining access to new contacts and opportunities. Regular support and feedback can boost a mentee’s confidence in their abilities and decision-making.
In Career Advancement, Mentorship can lead to greater career opportunities, promotions, and increased job satisfaction. Mentees receive personalized advice and support, helping them navigate challenges and make informed decisions. It represents the interests of students in discussions about educational policies and practices. These are also sources of great learning for the teachers. Keeping in view such good sides of mentor-mentee programme the faculties of the department conduct mentor –mentee sessions at regular intervals
Lecture Series:
Program 1: A series of lectures was delivered by Professor Ranjit Singha (Retd.), Associate Professor of Department of Political Science, Dibru College on diverse subjects related to the domain of Political Science held from 2nd March to 5th March, 2020. The programme was a successful one with the active participation of all the students of the department.
Program 2: A lecture programme was organized by Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, M.D.K.G. College, Dibrugarh on India- China Tussle: Context, Contestation and Challenges on 30th July, 2020 through online mode Google-Meet. Dr. Netajee Abhinandan, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Ravenshaw University, Cuttack and Dr.P. Krishnamohan Reddy, Assistant Professor, Sri Venkataswara University, Tirupati acted as Resource Persons in the programme. The programme was very successful one with the active participation of almost 100 students, scholars and academicians.
Program 3: Anwesha Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, MDKG College was invited for a talk on the topic “Bretton Woods System”. In her speech, Ms. Saikia elaborately talked on different issues and areas related to Bretton Woods System and provided the students with the relevant knowledge and information.
Programme 4: A lecture programme was organized by Department of Political Science on 28th March, 2024 on the topic “Trans-national Economic Actor” for the students of Political Science Department. The lecture was delivered by Ms Jugsikha Dowerah, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, M.D.K.G. College. In her lecture Ms. Dowerah extensively dealt with the topic of Transnational Economic Actors in International Relations and provided the students with meaningful insights.
