About the Department:
The Dept. came into existence in 1989 with the objective to serve as a centre of girl’s education in Mathematics. Initially, the Dept. offered B.A. Honours (Major) and Non-Honours (Non-Major) courses. B.Sc. courses are started from the year 2016.
Objective of the Department:
- To impart quality knowledge to the students in Mathematical concepts and methods in graduate level.
- To provide adequate number of resources and support for students including tutoring, mentoring, access to Mathematical tools and technology.
Vision of the Department:
Our vision is to popularize Mathematics among girl students.
Mission of the Department:
Our mission is to make the students understand the essence of Mathematics and the interdisciplinary nature of the subject.

Future Plan:
- To increase student’s strength in the Department of Mathematics.
- Successful implementation of NEP-2020.

Message from the HOD
The importance of Mathematics is due to its increasing demand in the new developments in science and technology. In the present days digital system has become an integral part of our daily life. Beyond Mathematics, one can’t comprehend the concepts in Engineering Sciences, Physics, Computer Science, Management sciences, Social sciences etc. The department offered both Major (Honours) and Non-Major (Non-Honours) programs in B. A. and B.Sc Course. Our faculty members are committed to high standards of conceptual teaching of the subject.

Activities of the Department:
1. Organised an interactive and invited talk for students on “Structure in Matrices and Spectral Symmetry” on 9th of Feb.2018
- The programme was started with an Inaugural Speech delivered by Dr. Dilip Kumar Bhuyan, Principal, M.D.K.G College.
- (Dr.) Shreemayee Bora, Dept. of Mathematics, IIT, Gauwahati was the resource person
2. Organized a virtual interactive programme for students on 13th August, 2020, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on ZOOM Platform as a part of the plan of the department to provide opportunity to the students to interact with research scholars and young teachers working in national and international academic organizations and research institutes.
- The programme was started with an Inaugural Speech delivered by Dr. NibeditaPhukan, Principal, MDKG College.
- Ms. Sumana Chetia, Research Fellow, the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Barcelona, Spain was the resource person and delivered her speech on the topic “Mathematics in Interdisciplinary Research”.
3. Organized an international level Webinar on “Prime Numbers: Structures and Patterns” on 22/12/2020 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Google Meet platform as a part of National Mathematics Day celebration.
- Meeting was started with an Inaugural Speech delivered by Dr. NibeditaPhukan, Principal, MDKG College.
- Dr. P. D. Goswami, Associate Professor, Dept. of Mathematics, DHSK College, Dibrugarh was present as Guest of Honour.
- Mr. Kunjakanan Nath, Ph.D. Student, Universite De Montreal, Canada wasthe resource person.
4. On 18thDecember, 2021, Department of Mathematics, MDKG College organized Parents-Teacher Meet at 11:00 am at Conference Hall of the College.
- Meeting was chaired by Mrs. Purnima Chutia, HOD, Mathematics, MDKG College.
- Presence and participation of Parents was encouraging.
- Friendly interaction between teachers and parents was held.
5. On 22nd December, 2021,as a part of National Mathematics Day celebrationDepartment of Mathematics, MDKG College organized twoInteractive Talks on “Career in Mathematics” from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Google Meet platform and on “Sketching, Drawing and Mathematics” from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Conference Hall of the College.
- Meeting was started with an Inaugural Speech delivered by Dr. NibeditaPhukan, Principal, MDKG College.
- Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia, Principal, LTK College, North Lakhimpurwas the resource person of the first session.
- Mr. Dipu Bora, Assistant Professor, MDKG College wasthe resource person for the second session.
6. On the occasion of National Mathematics Day Celebration at Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College, Dibrugarh, an interactive talk on “Understanding Women Physical & Mental Health and Wellbeing” was organized on 22nd December, 2022 by the Department of Mathematics at Campus-II of the college. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Juli Konwar, Head, Dept. of Mathematics, initiated by Mrs. Purnima Chutia, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics and inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr. Nibedita Phukan. Ms. Nasima Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dibrugarh University, acted as Resource Person and delivered talk on the topic. She emphasized on the need of understanding the physiology behind menstrual cycle of female in particular age range. Further, she suggested not to administer medicines without proper consultation with doctors and to avoid traditional medicines without having scientific justification. The student participants of the college were highly benefitted from the invited talk. The students made in-depth interaction with the Resource Person. The programme was also graced by Vice-Principal and teachers of the college, and parents invited for the Parent-Teachers Meet. The program ended with a vote of thanks offered by Ms. Swapnali Kalita.
- The faculty members of the Department of Mathematics, MDKG College, Dibrugarh visited Bogibil High School, Dibrugarh on 12/05/2023 as part of extension activity undertaken by the college and interacted with the students and teachers of the school. Thefaculty members interacted withthe students of Class IX and Class X of the school with the topics as shown below:
