About the Department
MDKG College is one of the foremost women educational institution in the state of Assam in Dibrugarh District. The Department of Bengali was established in the same year of establishment of the college in the year, 1963. The department of Bengali is dedicated to excellence in teaching and service. In 2022 we have applied for the Major course in the Dibrugarh University with all formalities. At present there are two permanent faculty members in the Department.
Vision of the Department :
- To better educate students about their mother tongue and help them recognise the value of their language.
- To encourage student of write about the article on contemporary literature topic.
- To teach the student how to write the seminar paper.
Mission of the Department:
- To encourage students to learn their native language.
- To aware the students about the significance of the mother tongue.
- To grow interest of students to various aspects of Bengali literature.
- To encourage the students in extracurricular activities for all round development of their growth of personality.
- To introduce major course in the Department.

Details of Infrastructural Facilities:
- Department has its own library. There are above 100 books in library including reference books, novels, short stories, poetry and research journal.
- Internet facilities for staff and students : There is a laptop with Wi-Fi connection in the department and student can use the device.

- Teachers of the department are always conscious about the enrichment of the students by organizing Seminar, Group Discussion etc. Department also organizes Special Lectures about Literature, Indian Culture and on Eminent Personalities.

- Lecture, Discussion, Seminar, Home Assignment, Group Discussion and encourages to read departmental books and journals and search internet to update the outlook of the students.

- TO ENCOURAGE OUT STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF LITERATURE SPECIALLY OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE, WE ORGANIZE A PROGRAMME ON RABINDRANATH TAGORE EVERY YEAR IN THE DEPARTMENT.
Analysis of the department and Future plan (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges):
- Strengths : Good Relation with the Students and Nurturing them in Academic Development along with Moral Development and Personally mentoring and councelling.
- Weakness : No Major Courses in the Department
- Opportunities : Department has departmental reference books and as Higher Secondary is having Advance Bengali as a subject, there is a huge opportunity to start Major Course in Bengali for Three Year Degree Course.
- Challenges : Open Major Course in the Department.

- To Upgrade the Standard of the Departmental Library.

Greetings from the Dept. of Bengali
I take opportunity to welcome you from all walks of life to be apart of Bengali Dept, M.D.K.Girls’ College. Our aim is to remain at the forefront of learning and teaching. We maintain high academic standard with our distinct students centered teaching-learning methodology.
Our experienced faculties are the strong pillars of the department whose focus is to empower a diverse community of students to nurture their capabilities, transform their lives and find success in modern societies through quality teaching and learning. On behalf of the department I wish you a very educative journey of completing your graduation in our institution.
Activities of the Department
1. A parent teacher meeting was organised on 14.12.2021 in the Department.
2. An academic talk was held on 28.12.2021. The resource person was Kumkum Chakraborty, Associate Professor of DHSK Kanoi College, Dibrugarh.
3. Birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was organised on 9.5.2022 in the Department
4. Matribhasa Divas was celebrated on 21st February, 2023 in the Dept.
5. A lecture on the Topic “Matri Bhasar Prayojonita” was organised on 10.04.2023 by the Dept. of Bengali in collaboration with Dept. of Bengali DHSK College, Dibrugarh. The resource person was Dr. Sanjay Bhattacharjee of Gauhati University, Associate Professor, Dept. of Bengali.
6. An envision activity was done by the Dept. at Victoria H.S. School in Dibrugarh on 04.05.2023.
