About the Department
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 2016, and it offers undergraduate courses in Science and Arts. At present the department imparts GEC and Minor courses to the undergraduate students.
The primary vision of the Department is to empower the girl students in different aspects of life by providing them quality education and help them in channelizing this knowledge in a rewarding manner. To strive for an overall development of the students so that they can connect and compete with the contemporary world.
Statistics, as a subject, shall inculcate critical, analytical and logical understanding in the students. And they will be able to apply the concepts of statistics such as probability, sample surveys, data analysis in real life situations.

The department currently complies with the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) of NEP, 2020 and offers Multi-Disciplinary Generic Elective (MDGEC) and Minor courses in Statistics.

Message from HOD
As the Head of the Department, I am proud to take lead of an important discipline like Statistics. Statistics as a subject has gained prominence than ever before. The world today revolves around data and statisticians play a crucial role in evidence-based decision making. Our department offers a curriculum which make the students equipped with technical expertise and critical thinking. We aim to provide our students with solid foundation both in theory and practice.
This discipline needs more focus and its importance needs to be presented to the students. A graduate in Statistics is welcomed in diverse fields ranging from academia to industries, govt. organisations, business and many more. So, I would like to invite the students to explore our programs and become a part of our family.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITITES:
SESSION 2022-2023:
- A State level Essay writing competition was successfully organized by the Department of Statistics on the occasion of National Statistics Day, 29th June 2022. The topic of the essay competition was “ Role of Statistics in Interdisciplinary Subjects”.
- An extension programme was conducted by the Department of Statistics at Bani Sadan M. E. School, Dibrugarh on 31st May, 2023. The topic of the programme was “Scope of Statistics”. The students of the school actively participated in the session and it was an engaging experience.
