ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Bengali as a department came into being right at the inception of Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls’ College in 1963.The Main focus of the department is to develop and analyze creative thoughts among the students. The thrust area is old and modern Bengali literature,language with contemporary literary thoughts and culture within the arena of UG syllabus prescribed by the Dibrugarh University.
Furthermore, the teachers of the department regularly contribute to different journals and books with research based writings and take responsibilities in different social & cultural organization.

VISION
The Department of Bengali prepares students for broad range of careers by teaching a core set of valuable and transferable skills through the study of literature, history, cultures and societies which can creates the opportunities and working experience.
MISSION
The mission of the Department is to promote understanding between World literature and Bengali Literature. We develop robust literary imagination and critical thinking for our students by encouraging and supporting them. Through different activities, we try to equip our students for advancing and enriching their future career and also build up the moral character by the inculcation of spiritual values.

Our experienced faculties are the strong pillars of the department whose focus is to empower a diverse community of students to nurture their capabilities, transform their lives and find success in modern societies through quality teaching and learning. ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

- Organised a lecture on Rabindranath Tagore’s life and literature on 9th August, 2011 by Prof. Kshitish Roy, Retired HOD of the Dept. of Bengali of Dibru College,Dibrugarh.
- Celebrated the Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 8th August 2012.Students of the Department participated actively in the occasion.
- Conducted “RABINDRA SMARAN ANUSTHAN” and invited guest lecturer from DHSK College, Dibrugarh. Prof. Kumkum Chakraborty and Prof. Rita Poddar on 8th August, 2013. They delivered lectures on Rabindra literature and presented cultural function by departmental students.
- Held talks by Dr. Swapna Nath of DHSK Commerce College, Dibrugarh on “Women in Tagore’s Literature” on 10th August, 2014.
- Organised a literary programme based on Indian Tradition and Rabindranath Tagore and invited guests Smt. Sunetra banerjee and Mousumi Goswami of Dibru College, Dibrugarh on 9th August, 2015.
- Organised a recitation competition among the students of B.A 2nd & 4th semester on 11th February, 2015.
- Celebrated “KABI SMARAN” on the Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 8th August 2016.Students of the Department participated actively in the occasion.
- Celebrated the Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 18th August 2017. Along with the department a good number of students also participated actively from DHSK College,Dibrugarh.
- Celebrated the Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 24th August 2018. Along with the department a good number of students also participated actively from DHSK College, Dibrugarh.
- Organised Dance-drama ‘Mahisashurmardini’ on the eve of Mahalaya, 2019.
